Starring: Sasha Luss, Cilian Murphy, Luke Evans, Helen Mirren, et al.
Anna Poliatova (Sasha Luss) is given a chance by the KGB to do something more with her life, and that’s all she’s ever wanted. But a growing conscience and the impulsive results in a spy movie that’s on almost everyone’s tongue this Fall. Anna‘s the latest entry in an ever-growing list of movies about a badass Russian spy doing badass stunts and killings.
Anna boasts of many jaw-dropping scenes and set-pieces. For a while it starts slow, but all that changes the moment our heroine walks into a restaurant with an unloaded gun, and has to kill every last one of the armed men there. While the plot is fairly predictable, Anna does add a spin to its storytelling by constantly deconstructing and reconstructing the progression of its narrative. This ensures a constant supply of twists and turns up until the final scene.
Real life Russian model Sasha Luss puts up a good performance as a KGB agent pretending to be a Russian model. And for a moment during her electrifying action scenes, you might be permitted into thinking her to be the female version of John Wick. Luke Evans, Helen Mirren, and Cilian Murphy all costar, and put up pretty decent performances too.
