I think they whole world’s been sleeping on one very awesome show, it’s name is ‘Dear White People’.
With two seasons of 10 episodes each under its belt, Dear White People is carving a quiet space, in the niche of satirical comedy-drama, for itself. In recent memory, I don’t think I’ve binge-watched any show as fast as I did this one. It was engaging from start to finish, across two seasons, 👏. And after that, I went online to source for articles and images, more stuffs to feed my hunger for more. I was disappointed to find very few links to relating headlines… Not even the tantalizing display of nude hot boys and girls could help spread its gospel. You might wonder why, just like I did? Is it because of its title? 🤔
Dear White People is a misnomer, for those who don’t know, and has a deeper meaning than meets the casual eye.
First produced as a movie in 2014, ‘Dear White People’ had massive critical reception. For a crowdfunded movie, that’s a big deal. Fast-forward three years later, ⏩, Netflix decides to bring it to the small screen, but a lot of people opposed this move, acussing the show of being racist because of its title. And, now, even after two seasons, with both scoring a whopping 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, I understand the stigma from the accusation from still remains, resulting in lower online engagement.
But I say to you still having doubts about the show:
1.Dear White People is awesome to watch.
2.The characters are fun, their pains relatable, and the cast is topnotch.
3.The show hits on the racism topic in a fun, yet mature way.
‘Dear White People’ might not be a ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘Walking Dead’, but it’s a star in its own making. Give it a chance to shine.
