Rinzy Reviews ‘The Dark Tower’ (2017)

Release Date: July 31, 2017

Budget and Box Office: $60M/ $113.2M

Starring: Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, etc.

Since its release The Dark Tower has been generally criticized for being a poor adaptation of its source material – the novel by Stephen King. I just saw it and I say critics and audience might’ve been too hard on it. It doesn’t score much on the awesomeness meter, but it does try on the sensibility’s.

Though not a strong contender for best film of the year, the movie boasts just two fairly strong performances from Idris Elba and young Tom Taylor. I had serious issues with the way Matthew McConaughey portrayed the role of a man with magic… It was very bad and unconvincing.

The movie scores very low points for set, cinematography and costumes. Nothing out of the ordinary in any of these, which, I guess, aided its poor reviews.

If you’re looking for something decent with a tiny western-modern feel you should see this The Dark Tower. Like I said earlier, it’s not unwatchable. 👌.

PS: Whoever understood the unique concept of a Gunslinger and why Idris Elba’s Roland was resistant to the Man in Black’s magic should please explain. ☺.
