The ‘Once Upon A Time’ Soft Reboot Is A Welcome Development.

OUAT is back! Sort of. After the run of the not so good season six, many viewers were surprised to hear the show was going to undergo a reboot of some sort, with many of its principle casts not returning. In fact, only three of the principle cast + a grown up Henry. As at that time, it seemed like rocket science, I felt the show should have ended with the 6th season since it had lost the magic that once made it special. Haha! But the season seven premiere (S07 E01) turned out to be decent, nice, and had that spellbinding magic that made the show endear to our heart, once.

It turns out there are more realms in existence than the one we’ve grown accustomed to. And possibly, various incarnations of characters we’ve already come across, as we got introduced to another Cinderella (a latina, as played by, Daniella Ramirez). This means, we can have another Snow White, Prince Charming, and even Evil Queen, though I hope the story doesn’t delve in there.

The returning cast members – Regina (who now goes by Ronin), Hook (who’s a sergeant turned detective at the end of the episode), and Rumple (Hook’s new partner). It might take me a while to stop referring to everyone by their old names, so please, forgive me. But I really got excited watching this episode, it held promise, something I haven’t seen in OUAT in a while now.

The main plot revolves around a grown Henry, who set out to discover and write his own story devoid of his family. He met and fell in love with the Cinderella of this new realm and they had a daughter. There’s a new curse, and no one remembers their former lives, save for the little girl. Does this remind you about someone? Yes. Nostalgia’a *****

Various questions pop up now, such as:

– Who cast the curse?

– Where are the other characters?

– How did the Dark One get ensnared by a curse? and…

– What happened to Storybrooke, as the new story takes place in Seattle?

This and many more will certainly be answered as the season goes forward. Until then, enjoy the rebranded show called, ‘Once Upon A Time’.
