TV Review: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. S04 E15

Instead of one simple story, AoS this season decided to go with a story spread over three pods (portions). It started with the introduction of the Ghostrider and the Darkholme, then the Life Model Decoys (LMDs), and now into the final pod, the Framework. This strategy has worked very well as AoS is at its strongest in terms of storytelling since its premiere in 2013; I like particularly how well the story-line has been progressive in terms of direction.

The episode picked up almost the same place it left last week, Jemma and Fitz realize all their friends just returned from the battle at The Superiors submarine have been replaced by LMDs; as expected, they panic, and have to keep up the front to avoid exposing the only card they have – that they are in the know. AoS brought out thorough acting, one of the best of  Iain De Caestecker (Fitz) and Elizabeth Hendridge (Jemma Simmons), who were extremely wonderful in their interaction in this episode, and here’s why.

Between Fitz and Jemma, one’s a Life Model Decoy (LMD).

It took me a while to figure out whom. I know this praise should go to the Writers and Director who beautifully shielded this information within the whole accusation thing, but these actors brought the action to life, and it was very believable. Whoever has been following Fitz and Jemma’s love story since season 1 understands perfectly how much these duo love themselves.

Jemima and Daisy had to work together to evade the LMDs to get to safe grounds with a few other agents they were able to convince about what was really going on.

LMD-May was also brought back into commission this episode. Her programming had made her more human-like, softer than the real May, but I came to love her in this episode as well. LMD-May sacrificed herself to destroy LMD-Coulson so that Daisy and her team could escape from LMD-Fitz and LMD-Mace. Once in safe grounds, Daisy and Jemima with the help of Agent YoYo plugged themselves into Aida’s framework, yo go save their friends.

Talking about Aida, she killed her creator, Dr. Radcliffe, because her topmost priority to protect the Framework supersedes the need to protect his life, as he’s the greatest threat to the Framework. She plugged his dying body into the framework to preserve his consciousness.

Inside the Framework we got a glimpse the many changes to the world we’ve grown accustomed to; Daisy is in a relationship with Grant Ward, May is at the Treskelion headed by Hydra, Jemma is supposedly dead, Fitz is a rich mogul, amongst other changes we don’t yet know about. With this new world AoS has built, it has the ability to tell any story with practically any character, living or dead, even with characters from the larger MCU.

AoS returns in six weeks time, with an all  new action-packed episode, and answers to all our burning questions.
